The suspension system supports the vehicle allowing the wheels to move up and down over bumps and ditches and irregularities in the road. It supports the ride for the frame, engine, transmission and offcourse the passengers while keeping the tyres in firm contact with the road under all conditions.

Early vehicles and some medium and heavy duty trucks and wheel drive vehicles have a straight axle front suspension.

The steering system works with the suspension system to provide directional control with a comfortable amount of steering effort.
